Live Updates

  • Ravens, WR Houshmandzadeh agree to terms (AP)
The Baltimore Ravens upgraded their receiving corps again by agreeing to terms Monday with T.J. Houshmandzadeh. To make room for Houshmandzadeh on the roster, the Ravens traded wide receiver Mark Clayton to the St. Louis Rams for an undisclosed draft pick. Clayton, drafted 22nd overall by Baltimore in the 2005 draft, ranks third in Ravens history with 234 career catches and 3,116 yards.
  • Dolphins T Long held out of drills (AP)
Dolphins Pro Bowl tackle Jake Long wore a left knee brace and sat out drills Monday as the team began its final week of preparation for the season opener at Buffalo. Long stretched with the rest of the team at the start of practice, but when drills began he went to the side and rode an exercise bicycle.
  • Roethlisberger no longer captain (AP)
Ben Roethlisberger is no longer a Pittsburgh Steelers captain. Roethlisberger, suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the season, was not chosen a Steelers captain in a vote by his teammates. He was selected the previous two seasons. Wide receiver Hines Ward was voted as an offensive captain for the sixth season, while tight end Heath Miller was chosen for the first time.
  • Jets' Revis arrives at camp to sign deal (AP)
With loud, welcoming cheers and some good-natured ribbing from his teammates, Darrelle Revis returned to the New York Jets. Finally. After months of waiting and wondering about his future, the All-Pro cornerback strolled onto the practice field Monday for the first time since June and ended his long contract holdout with a four-year deal.
  • QB Dixon working with Steelers' starters (AP)
Quarterback Dennis Dixon took snaps with the starters during the Pittsburgh Steelers' first practice of the week, a possible tipoff he will start Sunday's season opener against Atlanta. Dixon and longtime backup Charlie Batch are the lone two healthy quarterbacks eligible to play. Ben Roethlisberger is serving his four-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy,...
  • Leinart agrees to 1-yr. deal with Texans (AP)
Matt Leinart has agreed to a one-year deal with the Houston Texans, according to agent Tom Condon. Leinart was cut by Arizona on Saturday. Condon confirmed in a phone interview with The Associated Press on Monday that Leinart had reached a deal with the Texans. The Texans would not confirm the deal. The team returns to practice Wednesday, leading up to Sunday's season opener against Indianapolis.
  • Browns NT Rogers back at practice (AP)
Just like that, the Cleveland Browns' defense got a whole lot bigger, badder and bulkier. Shaun Rogers came back. The mammoth nose tackle, who missed training camp and all four exhibition games while recovering from a leg injury sustained last season that required surgery, returned to practice Monday.
  • McNabb practices, Haynesworth a backup (AP)
Donovan McNabb is once again practicing with the Washington Redskins after being sidelined two weeks with a sprained left ankle. McNabb was wearing a helmet instead of a baseball cap and took several snaps Monday during the 20 minutes of practice that reporters were allowed to watch. McNabb sprained his ankle in a preseason game against Baltimore on Aug.
  • NFL still reviewing umpire positioning (AP)
The NFL will update its teams this week on the repositioning of the umpire to the offensive backfield. A memo will be sent to the 32 clubs outlining how the change will work during the season. A meeting of the referees and umpires will be held Friday, one day after the season opener between Minnesota and New Orleans.
  • Saints sign veteran LB Clark (AP)
The New Orleans Saints have added veteran linebacker Danny Clark to their roster, marking his second stint with the club since the Sean Payton era began in 2006. The 33-year-old Clark, now in his 11th season, also was with the club in 2006. His addition adds depth to a linebacker corps depleted by a season-ending foot injury to projected weakside starter Jonathan Casillas.

My name is Joe Gaffney.

I am currently the Hilton Super Book NFL Champion. I hold the Holy Grail of all NFL contests.

I have known Chuck McDowell for many years. When Chuck walks into a room he lights it up. He is honest, truthful and his integrity is impeccable.Chuck has been on my nationwide radio show WSNR and on my TV show in New York.

I have never had another handicapper on my show but Chuck's solid traits and handicapping skills got him to the mike. I never gave out both sides on my show but when Chuck and I both agreed we went 10-2 that year, for all the country to hear. Chuck's last superbowl says it all as he went 3-0 plus a money line win.

Chuck is a Southern gentleman and where I am from, Hell's Kitchen, in New York, he would be known as a stand up guy.

Sincerely,

Joe Gaffney
